Shell Omala S2 GX are high-quality extreme-pressure (EP) gear oils designed primarily for heavy-duty industrial transmissions. Their outstanding protection against high loads, excellent protection against micropitting and compatibility with elastomers and paints offer superior performance in enclosed gear transmissions.
Applications
Industrial gearboxes with closed crankcases:
- Shell Omala S2 GX technology offers an efficient extreme-pressure (EP) additive package that allows it to be used in most gearboxes (steel-on-steel), with straight and helical teeth in enclosed casings, as well as heavily loaded systems with oil splash lubrication and circulation systems.
Other applications
- Shell Omala S2 GX oils are also suitable for lubricating non-gear-related applications such as roller bearings and other (steel-on-steel) components in splash or forced circulation systems. Shell offers a wide range of products for other gear transmissions that have their own specific requirements.

- Extended oil life thanks to oxidation stability and protection against thermal stress - leading to savings on maintenance: Shell Omala S2 GX oils are formulated to ensure excellent thermal and oxidation stability throughout the maintenance interval. They are resistant to high thermal stress and sludge formation to extend oil life, even at oil bath temperatures up to 1000C.
- Excellent protection against wear and micropitting: Shell Omala S2 GX oils offer remarkable protection against high loads and extend the life of various components.
- System efficiency is maintained by excellent water separation, resistance to foaming and corrosion protection: Water in lubricating oil is the cause of accelerated corrosion and damage to gears and bearings. Shell Omala S2 GX offers excellent protection against corrosion, even in the presence of contamination from seawater or solid particles.
- The oils are designed to minimise the risk of foaming in the most difficult conditions. They offer excellent shear stability by maintaining viscosity throughout the entire maintenance interval. Improved system efficiency is achieved through compatibility with various sealing materials and adhesives to prevent premature seal failure and thus prevent leakage.
- Shell Omala S2 GX is compatible with common paint finishes.
